What is flexibility, that’s a balloon that you inflate and when the air flows out it takes on its empty form again. That is also why I find it hard to believe that a flexible building exists. In modernism you see sliding and rotating walls, and that’s wonderful, but that doesn’t make your building flexible. Multiple spaces are created but that still means that your building can only change in a few shapes.
The unnamed space is a space suitable for many functions, the space is also not visible from the public space, it is underground. From the unnamed space 3 residential towers rise through the ground level into the air. The entrance of the houses in the three towers can only be reached from the unnamed space. The residents always have to pass through the unnamed space first in order to enter their homes. Because the entrance is in the unnamed space, the occupants will have to go through a different function each time they enter their home.
Because the entrance in the residential towers is always in the unnamed space, the floor plans of the house are not horizontal but vertical. Each floor has its own function. In order to divide the floors optimally, the stairs are part of the function. The stairs as a kitchen or bedroom all the living functions are in the stairs.
A apartment can be divided vertically into two small flats. This is possible by using the stairs at the red circles to the core of the ground floor.
The residential towers are an ode to modernism, light and sobriety. In great contrast to the unnamed space that is actually a concrete container underground where a number of floors have been placed on the outer wall.
The flexibility is not so much in the building as in the movement and amazement of the user.
